CUSIB members sponsor a conference on women’s rights in China

Family Planning Conference in China

Women’s Rights in China and Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, headed by the Committee for U.S. International Broadcasting (CUSIB) members Jing Zhang and Reggie Littlejohn are sponsoring a Conference on Family Planning Policy and Population Development in the People’s Republic of China. This is an area of severe and widespread human rights abuses targeting women and their families.

Conference on Family Planning in ChinaSpeakers at the conference will include:

Professor Yang Zhizhu, formerly Associate Professor of Law at Chinese Youth Political Institute, a leading activist and dissident against the One Child Policy.

He Yafu, former reporter for Coastal News. Mr. He has published hundreds of articles on population and family planning policy on the Internet. The web visitor count of his microblog has reached over ten million, leading all other microblogs focusing on the One Child Policy. He has also published articles in Eastern Morning Daily, First Financial Daily and China Youth Daily, etc. Mr. He is an accomplished commentator on population development and family planning policy in China.

Ma Jian, a famous Sino-British writer whose novel Beijing Coma received the 2009 British International Free Speech Award, 2009 Athens Literature Award and was nominated for Berlin Literature Award. Beijing Coma has been published in more than 30 languages around the world. Mr. Ma was listed as one of fifty most important modern writers by French magazine Lire in 2004. Mr. Ma’s newest work, Yin Zhi Dao used the conscience of a writer to expose the inhumane aftermaths of the One Child Policy.

The CUSIB Executive Director Ann Noonan is also scheduled to speak at the conference.

The Committee for U.S. International Broadcasting is an independent and nonpartisan organization that supports Voice of America (VOA) and Radio Free Asia (RFA) broadcasts to China that provide vital uncensored news and information to women and other victims of human rights abuses.

The conference will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Sheraton Hotel 7th Floor – 135-20 39th Avenue, Flushing, NY 11354.
