Karl Altau, Managing Director of JBANC, joins CUSIB

The Committee for U.S. International Broadcasting (CUSIB)is happy to welcome Karl Altau as its Advisory Board member. We greatly value his experience in representing the interests of various American communities which have always strongly supported U.S. international broadcasting.
Karl Altau joined the Joint Baltic American National Committee in 1997 and has served as Managing Director of JBANC since 1998. During the past fourteen years he has helped conduct extensive advocacy on behalf of the Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian national organizations and communities in the United States, which was particularly intense during the period of NATO accession for the three Baltic countries, a goal achieved in 2004.
In addition, Altau joined the Board of Directors of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation in 2004. Since then, he has played a key organizational role in building the public visibility of the Foundation in Washington, DC and internationally.
Altau earned a degree in journalism from Radford University in Virginia in 1983. Graduate studies later took him to Stockholm Sweden, Bloomington Indiana, Helsinki Finland, and Tartu Estonia. During the period of 1984-1995 Altau focused upon researching the history and politics of the Nordic-Baltic region and Russia, and spent three years with the consular section of the Embassy of Estonia in Helsinki, Finland during 1992-1995.
